My advice to consumers is NOT to purchase from Dell - if you live in the UK that is.

Today is the 15th of February - 5 days after the scheduled delivery. To begin with I used Dell’s UK carriers (Walsh Western) automated service to arrange delivery of my brand new PC for Friday the 11th, but the system cocked up and set the date for Thursday the 10th. To try and alter this, I contacted WW the next morning to arrange a new delivery date and was told that as the order was already in progress to being delivered, I was to call on the 10th so that they could stop the delivery from leaving the depot. However, when I called the delivery was already in progress and so I would have to accept that I would not be in to receive the delivery. It never came.

The next day I patiently waited for the delivery to come as I knew it had left Coventry and arrived in Glasgow. At approximately 4pm I called WW again who told me it was definitely in a van and it would definitely arrive before 6pm. It never came.

At this stage, I’m getting very angry. So the next morning I called them again, as soon as the lines became open. They apologised for the non-delivery (not providing any reasons) and tried to contact the local carrier (BusinessPost) to attempt redelivery as it was not showing as up for delivery that day but alas, they couldnt get through. They asked me to either call back later that day or when they re-open on Monday (the 14th). And so I called on the 14th after emailing both Walsh Western and Dell describing the situation. At this stage I am told that the delivery is in a van, on its way and the driver will call and give me an ETA.

An email from Dell alerted me to the fact that I had entered my telephone number incorrectly and so I called WW to provide them with my correct details. Then it came to 3pm and I was sick waiting for the driver to call so I surfed the net looking for BusinessPost’s contact numbers in Glasgow. I called BusinessPost who informed me that the delivery was not assigned to go out until Tuesday, the 15th. I questioned this as WW had assured me that the delivery was again on its way. They put me on hold whilst someone more senior dealt with the situation. Again, I was told it would not go out until tomorrow. They asked who I had spoken to at WW but I had not taken it down as I had probably dealt with just about everyone in that office in the last week.

I called WW again, who told me that someone had been trying to contact me. So the person on the phone said her colleague - who was trying to call me - would try again once her call had ended. I waited, no call. So I called again and was told that they were calling the wrong number i.e. not the number I had called them to change. Again, the colleague is on another call so the new telephonist says he will arrange it and asks if i would accept it tomorrow. So again, I’m put on hold, until the agent comes back and tells me the delivery is now booked. I waited in baited breath.

Well, it came! 2 hours late, but it’s here and I’m using it as I type. And, Dell have given me £50 for all the trouble that’s been caused!
